Beethoven felt that he was poor but when assets totaled (less money for creditors) = 10,000 Gulden. Nikalaus van Beethoven and friends found among his belongings, pictures of Giulietta and of Antonie along w/ the immortal beloved letter to Antonie in a secret drawer. Schindler destroyed ~260 of the estimated 400 conversation books and made false entries into others as late as 1840 (xvi Wegeler and Ries)

Thursday. The funeral took place 3 days later at the parish church in the Alserstrasse with burial at the Wahinger Cemetery (now a public park) where 20,000 attended. Torchbearers included: Bernard, Bohm, Czerny, Haslinger, Holz, Linke, Schubert, Streicher, Schuppanzigh, Steiner, as well as Grillparzer. [L.Dec p84]. (?? Pallbearers were 8 of Vienna's leading musicians: Eybler, Hummel, Kreutzer, Seyfried, Gansbacher, Gyrowetz, Weigl, & Wurfel??)

Ludwig Johann van Beethoven born to Karl and Caroline. He eventually emigrated w/ his wife and child to the US - all traces have been lost. He changed his name to Louis von Hoven entering in the US. [See Nwsltr v8#3/V9#1 p83]

Therese Brunsvik entered into her diary: "...Beethoven! It seems like a dream that he was the friend, the intimate of our house -- a stupendous spirit! Why did not my sister J., as the widow Deym, accept him as her husband? She would have been happier than she was with St(ackelberg). Maternal love caused her to forgo her own happiness. Hermine (Minnie) van Beethoven born. Eventually married Herr Axmann in Vienna, she died soon after at age 35 years old on 3/17/1887 3rd child of Karl's and Caroline's married Herr Weidinger, a bank official in Vienna; died in Vienna 1919 at old age;had 2 sons. 4th child - later Frau Gabriele Heimler born 1844 lived & died in Vienna; had 1 son who became guardian of family souvenirs.

Ludwig van Beethoven's remains were moved to Zentral-friedhof in Vienna - a great resting place for musicians where he lays side by side with Schubert.
